I absolutely loved this article, Grow Some Labia! It was a joy to read from beginning to end! I wholeheartedly would support the idea of DEI 2.0! This would be DEI done right! DEI in its current form is a massive failure. This is why corporations are rolling back DEI programs or abolishing them altogether. But yet, we shouldn’t give up on the idea. DEI if applied properly could really help bring people together and build a more perfect union. Diversity, Equal Opportunity and Inclusion is much better than its predecessor! There is nothing wrong at all with diversity but what is needed is a diverse array of people who recognize we are all one people and have a common ancestry as human beings. Groups that are scapegoated, misunderstood or vilified like Jews and Asians should be added. I would also suggest white Southerners who are stereotyped as racist, backwards and uneducated rednecks. A more nuanced and complex understanding of American and human history where folks learn that things like slavery, war, conquest, colonialism, and genocide are things ALL people and societies have engaged in is absolutely perfect! The demonization of white people and the West as uniquely evil needs to stop. For example, the Arabs were the most prolific enslavers in history. They took more blacks out of Africa than did the Europeans. A black man Tippu Tip, was the most prolific slave trader in history. Slavery has been practiced by nearly every human civilization since time immemorial! In the United States, the Five Civilized Tribes: the Cherokee, Choctaw, Creek, Chickasaw, and Seminole owned African-Americans as slaves just as white people did. To quote Paul Chaat Smith, the curator of the American Indian Museum “The Five Civilized Tribes were deeply committed to slavery, established their own racialized black codes, immediately reestablished slavery when they arrived in Indian territory, rebuilt their nations with slave labor, crushed slave rebellions, and enthusiastically sided with the Confederacy in the Civil War.” Those are just a couple of examples. One could also talk about the Rwandan Genocide or Ba’athist Iraq gassing Iranians, Kurds and their own people in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Imperial Japan committed horrific atrocities in China during WWII. The Mexicans and the Apache engaged in brutal warfare against each other in the 1800s and they hated each other. The Dominican Republic, Haiti and Zimbabwe all engaged in discrimination against white people. These are historical examples one could use in DEI 2.0 training to show those in attendance the complexity of human history and that anyone of any race or color is capable of evil. Equal opportunity for all and merit based hiring is by far the way to go. We’ve seen in LA with the wildfires how hiring unqualified people based on things like race, gender and sexual orientation has turned out. We should hire people based on their abilities not their identity. Your section on inclusion is incredible! Absolutely, Trans people should be included but they need to be understanding of the fact women have certain rights as well they have to respect. Also, they should be taught to be forgiving if someone messes up their pronouns. That’s not a “micro-aggression” or a reason to get angry or violent. Lastly, yes absolutely we need to include people with all different political views! Be they liberal, conservative, libertarian, moderate, green, etc. Diversity of thought being incorporated into DEI is a must! You have provided the blueprint to a newer and better version of DEI that would actually be successful and create a better workplace and a more harmonious and inclusive United States of America! I also wanted to mention you had asked what a Rockefeller Republican means. That refers to a moderate to liberal Republican who is socially liberal, fiscally conservative and a hawk on foreign policy. They believe in things like reproductive rights, women’s rights, racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, gun control, environmentalism, etc. On the economy, they believe in the free market and are pro-business but also are for a social safety net and are strong supporters of labor unions. They tend to favor public private partnerships. On foreign policy, their hawkish but not to the degree of say neocons. They are neorealists and Hamiltonian, they only favor military interventions if it’s in our national interest. In addition, Rockefeller Republicans are also internationalists who strongly support the
UN, NATO, SEATO, and other such alliances and international bodies. I hope that helped you gain a better understanding of what I believe in!
Wow! That is one helluva history lesson, NOah :) Thanks for reading! Re-reading it myself, it's not as bad as I'd thought when I started writing my other DEI article after getting Radha's two-cents worth. I guess what I did, and I'm only seeing it now, is write about the toxic elements of current DEI that need to be eliminated. Radha better identified the fundamental error of DEI 1.0 that I'll leave her to reveal on the 25th when she posts her own article on the racial/cultural/ethnic angle. Glad to hear this resonated with you. We've got to reach across the aisle as pretty much all of us near the centre have more in common than we don't.
Dunno; liberalism civilized the conservatives somewhat. They're not as homophobic as they used to be! And many have come to accept women's rights. And most conservatives I know aren't the racists I remember them being, say, forty years ago. Y'all need us ;)

Bad assumptions lead to poor results. No DEI: 1.0, 2.0, or x.y—EVER!
Only individual freedom, agency, and responsibility. Stop with the social, it's a deathtrap.
