Trans kids have existed for a very long time and also within conservative families. There’s nothing new there - but the numbers and sexes have changed dramatically.
A ratio of 3:1 trans women:men (aka more males) is normal, with an overall rate significantly below what we see today. Just look at Southeast Asia for a human baseline because there it’s accepted but not celebrated. They also certainly do not have lax parenting in any of those cultures.
Gender dysphoria usually starts in childhood, especially during puberty. That’s extremely unfortunate because that’s the best time to transition and also the worst time to make such permanent decisions.
Before it became a political issue, probably very few teenagers were mistaken about their gender. Now it’s salient so kids - especially girls - jump to gender dysphoria as an explanation for what’s virtually always just growing pains because puberty is intense and often awful. But virtually isn’t literally.
The kids you're referring to with 'gender dysphoria' are almost all gay kids. 80% of them outgrow it if not interfered with. A very few kids go on to transition as adults (I knew one guy in high school who did, after he graduated) but he was very much the exception. However we had a lot of gay kids and adults because no one was 'transitioning' them.
There's no science behind what you say about kids needing to transition as evidenced by The WPATH Files and even more importantly, the UK's Cass Review.
Yanno, if you need a teacher to tell you you might be 'born in the wrong body', you pretty certainly aren't. Human beings evolved sexually dimorphic - as have any other sex-having creatures in the world - for a reason. That's how life perpetuates life, and it doesn't care how you see yourself. Even clownfish and hermaphrodites are sexually dimorphic - there are only two sexes, period, although some creatures get both or can change from one to the other, but there's no third sex, including people with intersex conditions.
The fact that childhood is the worst time to make life decisions exemplifies why it's never 'the best time'. Puberty is a perfectly natural life change and it's never been easy for anybody. The current craze to transition before puberty points far more to a deeper problem of children being improperly prepared for adolescence and adulthood, who want to remain eternal little Peter Pans.

Nature didn't fuck up, human narcissism did.
