Regarding Nicole Brown Simpson, have you come across material that confirms her interest in OJ Simpson was primarily driven by her desire to marry a wealthy man, as you suggest? Perhaps she was actually in love with him at some point?
It was on one of the websites I found when I first started researching her years ago…the first iteration of that story, on Medium, was about 5-6 years ago. I think I included the video about her last 24 hours? CAnt’ remember. Might have been in one of the videos I watched. I read a few books about her, googled that case over the years…when it was going on I mostly was sick of hearing about it all the time like most Americans but I wasn’t much invested in spreading the word about not tolerating abuse back then. I want to say a website but I can’t be sure.
Apparently abuse is the price some women are willing to pay in exchange for a few months or years of access to the avails of misogyny peddled through the music industry.
Powerful. Women need to take control and stop reveling in their victim status. I personally feel that we are not living in a patriarchy in the Western world, but if there are remnants of patriarchy left, abused women who seek out abusive partners are helping it survive. Poor women may not be as able to leave their abusive partners, but girlfriends of celebrities have a lot of leverage. They can leave, get a hefty settlement and make him look bad in the process. They can demand better treatment or just walk out the jerk’s door. The next woman who takes him on even though she has been warned by his past or his violent song lyrics will have to learn her lessons the hard way. Stand up to bullies. It’s the thing they’re most scared of. Because they are weak, pathetic men.
