I don't know whether that would damage the DNA or not. I can't imagine why the bottom of a drawer wouldn't do. I mean, they draw DNA out of bones that have been in the ground for thousands of years!!! Although granted sometimes it's frozen ;) But yeah, any dinner guests who open the freezer for more ice cubes might find it a bit rude ;)
He is correct. Better in a cold environment. I would refrigerate it at the very least. If it’s wet, it will develop mold and other contaminants and degrade past the point of usefulness. Rape kits are preserved in refrigeration. If residual evidence is preserved, at least completely air dry it before storage.
Where did you learn this? I'd like to validate this for the future. I don't know the details of preserving DNA, but supposedly E. Jean Carroll's Donny-DNA could still be useable if only Monsieur would provide a sample. I guess I can't blame him. I wouldn't either if I were him ;\
What if she let the garment dry first before bagging & refrigerating it? And is refrigration totally necessary? I mean, who needs it taking up space for, I don't know, up to 30 years?
It might seem a bit gross, but the best place to store the bag would be in a freezer.

Brilliant idea!
