(Audio) If You Hold The Same Beliefs You Did Thirty Or Forty Years Ago--Why?

Why do people cling to outdated ideas more than their unfortunate past hairstyles?

Why do people cling so relentlessly to outdated beliefs? Why do we update our hairstyles more often than our religious, or political, or social beliefs? The beliefs and values I grew up with forty years ago don’t hold up to scrutiny so much today, particularly some severely ossified beliefs about women and our lack of agency. Or Ms. Magazine sounding as outdated as Donald Trump when it scolds Project 2025 for some very good ideas it had for—well, people with common sense. (There are still a shit-ton of bad ideas in it!) Nine hundred pages of fundamentalist Christian and Republican authoritarianism gone wild, and Ms. picked on—marriage, volunteerism, and family?

Ms. Magazine is as ossified as my knees, and I at least have the excuse of being 62 years old. And I’m older than Ms.

The Republicans and the Democrats—yes, both of you!—are like the T. Rexes vs the Velociraptors fighting right after the comet hit (in this case, January 20th). Both touting old ideas that smell as badly as a brontosarus carcass that neither side will let go.
